Whilst this is dependent on where and how your business operates i.e. working from home, commercial office, factory, energy use relative to space heating is a major expenditure.

Energy consumed to provide domestic heating, as a percentage of your energy bills can be as high as 76%.  Commercial industries are as high as 46%, with industrial at 10%. - Energy Consumption in the UK Report, 2020

Even though industrial is showing space heating to be as little as 10% of energy expenditure, this could still be an excessive expense that can be reduced to not only improve financial cashflow, but minimise your businesses impact to the environment. Your business may operate machinery that increases your electrical consumption and in turn, provides a picture that heating is not an area of concern. This report therefore does not always provide a scenario which encourages you to address energy use through space heating. 

At RPJ Energy Solutions, it is our focus to review the areas of energy use individually, and demonstrate where improvements to systems can be made, and what that system’s anticipated return on investment would be. 

Our first step, prior to surveying the heating system, is to sit with our client and discuss their experiences with the existing heating system to understand any issues. For example, how is heating used in your facility, are there any areas being over or under heated, how easy is the current system to use?

This will allow us to obtain information that may not be provided by the existing heating controls, or even via our asset and energy surveys. We also value input of the facility end users as this can always provide important additional information. Engaging fully with our clients to understand their experiences, allows us to incorporate this into our tailored recommendations.  

This could be physical / remedial work, or by increasing the user knowledge of the system through demonstration.  In line with your objectives, we will complete a survey of your heating system, along with meter readings (gas or electric, depending on fuel source).  The survey will provide a full appraisal of your system.  

RPJ will always incorporate areas where energy consumption can be reduced, whilst ensuring there is no detrimental impact on the performance of the system.
